Mary K. Dougherty, a self-made entrepreneur, privately owned and operated Nicole Miller Manayunk in Philadelphia. She opened the boutique in 1994.
Dougherty’s career in fashion began as an independent traveling wholesale representative over 30 years ago. She has represented numerous designers including Nicole Miller over the years in a ten state territory. By working with great stores in her wholesale business, she applied much of what she learned to her retail stores. Dougherty says: "They taught me what not to do, as well as what to do over the years. Hands on experience, buying, merchandising, display, training staff — observing all the hats a retailer wears".
A favorite motto of Dougherty's is: "If you are fortunate enough to be successful, it is important to give something back to the community you serve". She has helped raise money and awareness through her stores over the years to support many charities including JDRF, Philadelphia Academy's, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Jeans for Justice, Homefront, and the Mural Arts Program.
As an exceptional businesswoman and community leader in Philadelphia, she has been named one of "Pennsylvania's 50 Most Successful Business Women" by Business Journal Magazine, one of the "Top 50 Women to Watch" by Business Philadelphia Magazine, and one of the "Top 25 Most Fashionable Philadelphians" by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Mary owned and operated two Nicole Miller Philadelphia boutiques, one in the heart of center city at The Bellevue, and one on Main Street in Manayunk. Her team of expert stylists are known for exceptional service among the city’s most high profile clients, including newscasters, editors, and more.
